Full Job Description
Our law firm is looking to hire an experienced civil litigation Paralegal. The person in this position will be assisting primarily our civil litigation team, in preparing and organizing for active litigation cases, including any upcoming trials and hearings. This position’s main duties will include preparing case pleadings, e-filing, drafting legal documents, researching the case, contacting courts, discussing case details with attorneys and clients, and organizing files for legal proceedings. The ideal candidate for this position is a team player with a positive attitude, self-motivated, able to take and follow directions, ready and willing to assist, personable, reliable, and an excellent problem-solver.
Previous experience in corporate law and business contract disputes is strongly preferred.
This is a full-time, in-person position with benefits after the probationary period.
Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Preparing and e-filing, e-serving federal and state court documents
Drafting and preparing court documents
Preparing hearing binders and trial binders
Conducting research, investigating facts, and developing legal arguments
Contacting court clerk for availability for hearings, drafting notices of hearings, and attaching them to attorney filings
Preparing logistics for depositions
Maintaining files in Clio in an organized manner with correct labeling
Keeping track of and recording all billable and non-billable time into Clio system.
Keeping track of changes in legal framework and providing timely updates on these changes
Taking the initiative to follow up on pending tasks for attorneys or for court response
Organizing service of process
Conducting conflicts checks
Drafting shell discovery questions and responses for attorney review
Correctly calendaring events for attorneys for deadlines, hearings, etc.
Bates-labeling discovery
Assist with office-related / non-legal matters as needed by supervisors.
Skills and Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English required.
Bachelor’s degree (in any field) required.
Fluency in multiple languages is preferred (Especially Chinese or Spanish).
Certification or associate degree in paralegal studies would be preferred, but not required.
Investigative mind and strong research skills.
Knowledge of legal database software.
Excellent communication and time management skills.
Adobe PDF proficiency.
Microsoft Suite proficiency.
Clio familiarity a plus.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work well under pressure.
Ability to multitask.
